Elkhart County Court Calendars Explained
Court dates in Elkhart County live in three connected layers. The CCS records judicial events in a case: settings, continuances, orders, and completed events. Indiana Trial Court Calendars publishes selected recent and future sessions for participating courts. Do the public tools seem thin? Do they disagree? The assigned court or the Elkhart County Clerk can settle it.
Those layers do not refresh in unison. A continuance motion may show up in the record before the judge rules on it. An old setting can linger in CCS history after a new date is entered. CourtCal is a schedule, not proof that a hearing happened or a judgment came down. For a dependable Elkhart County court date, check three things. Compare the newest CCS line with the current calendar result. Then call the court directly.
Elkhart CourtCal Search Controls
CourtCal greets you with a county dropdown, a court dropdown, a date picker, and an optional text box. Pick Elkhart first. The county choices are Elkhart Circuit Court and Elkhart Superior Courts 1 through 6. The text box takes a case number or case name, up to 75 characters. Find Hearings runs the query. Reset clears it. Previous Day and Next Day step through nearby dates.
| Control | Elkhart calendar use |
|---|---|
| County | Select Elkhart before narrowing the court |
| Court | Circuit Court or Superior Court 1 through 6 |
| Date | Enter the focused day in MM/DD/YYYY format |
| Search text | Use a case number or case name, up to 75 characters |
| Navigation | Find Hearings, Reset, Previous Day, and Next Day |
Broad text searches can cap at 100 results. A precise case number, court, and date cut the noise. If nothing comes back, drop a spelling-dependent name term before you decide the setting is absent.
Finding Your Court Date
Begin with the notice or case number. It points to the assigned Elkhart County court. CourtCal works best for a focused county-court date inside its public window. MyCase adds the CCS event history. Call the court last. Do this when a setting has changed or is urgent. A restricted or never-published setting also warrants a call.
- Open CourtCal and select Elkhart County.
- Choose Circuit Court or the assigned Superior Court when known.
- Enter the date and, if useful, a case number or case name.
- Read the result date, time zone, court, description, and judicial officer.
- Compare the setting with the newest MyCase CCS entry.
- Call the assigned court or Clerk if the result is blank, changed, or unclear.
The Elkhart County Clerk sits at 1905 Reliance Road in Goshen, phone 574-538-3000. Counter hours run Monday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Local Rule 103.2 also requires a daily public hearing calendar, posted except for restricted matters.
Elkhart's Five-Week Calendar Window
The Indiana Judicial Branch calendar announcement describes a public span. It runs from the prior seven days. It extends through the next four weeks. That window makes CourtCal a fit for near-term Elkhart County court dates, not full history or a distant trial search. Older events sit in the CCS. A far-future date may need a call to the court until it enters the window.
The official availability notice supplied this assigned Elkhart County court calendar image.

This window explains a common puzzle. A valid case can return no calendar result even when its CCS holds an older or later date.
How to Read a Court Setting
A CourtCal result for Elkhart County can show the session date, start and end time, time zone, linked case number when available, case style, court, description, and judicial officer. Not every result row lists a courtroom. Ask the assigned court where to appear. Never guess the location from a judge or division name.
| Date and time | The published session time and zone, subject to later court action |
|---|---|
| Case number | A link to the public case when the result provides one |
| Case style | The public caption or party-name form |
| Court | Elkhart Circuit or the assigned Superior Court |
| Description | Hearing, Initial Hearing, Status Hearing, Compliance Hearing, Sentencing Hearing, or Jury Trial |
| Judicial officer | The officer associated with the published session |
A label names the event type, not its outcome. "Jury Trial" is not a verdict. "Sentencing Hearing" is not the sentence. Check the later CCS and the signed order for what actually happened.
Elkhart County Calendar Participation
CourtCal for Elkhart lists Circuit Court and Superior Courts 1 through 6. The Elkhart county calendar selection supplied the assigned view below.

The listed county courts match Elkhart's Odyssey trial-court structure, though participation can shift. Note the retrieval date whenever you document a setting.
Local Rule 103.2 adds a local layer. Each regularly presiding judicial officer keeps a separate calendar. A daily hearing calendar is posted for citizens except restricted matters. Use the state interface and the local daily calendar together. Still, the assigned court controls. No public page is authority to ignore a notice or order.
Continuances, Resets, and Cancellations
An Elkhart County court date changes only through court action or the applicable procedure. Local Rule 210 requires a verified continuance motion stating the grounds. It must say whether the request is agreed or opposed. The relief sought also belongs in the motion. File it as soon as the need is known. Ordinarily file no later than seven days before the setting. The exception is a reason that arose inside that period.
Small Claims Rule 508 generally allows one continuance as of right. A request within seven days needs approval. The docket can then show three distinct events. Look for the motion, the court's order, and the new setting. A filed motion alone does not erase the old date. Read all three entries. If the ruling or replacement setting is missing, contact the court.
Setting sequence: Existing Date › Continuance Motion › Court Order › New Setting
Elkhart Hearing Labels in Plain Terms
The labels on an Elkhart County calendar are only short descriptions. But they tell you why a hearing exists. An initial hearing is the first criminal step. The charge, rights, counsel, and what comes next get addressed there. A status hearing checks progress. A compliance hearing asks whether some court requirement was met. Sentencing comes after the required case stage, and the label tells you so. A jury trial setting means the case is set for trial before a jury.
- Hearing
- A scheduled court session without a more specific public label.
- Status hearing
- A progress check, not a final result by itself.
- Compliance hearing
- A session about compliance with an order or requirement.
- Sentencing hearing
- A scheduled sentencing event, not proof of the sentence imposed.
- Reset
- A setting moved to another date by court action.
CourtCal and the CCS do not always match. The CCS tends to carry more detail. When two labels differ, trust the newest order and call the court to ask what appearance it requires.
If You Miss a Court Setting
Missed an Elkhart County court date? Act at once. Local Rule 103.5 requires prompt appearance. Rule 103.6 allows consequences up to default or contempt. What happens next depends on the case and the court handling it. And remember, a blank CourtCal screen never cancels an order. It does not cancel a notice or a required appearance either.
Urgent: Call the assigned Elkhart County court or Clerk with the case number. Ask what the CCS shows and whether another setting or order has been entered. Clerk staff can confirm record facts but cannot give legal advice. A lawyer can advise about any filing or response.
Check MyCase for the newest event, but do not sit back and wait for an online update before calling. Write down which office you contacted, the date and time, and what you were told. City court case? Call that city clerk, not the County Clerk.
Elkhart City Court Date Fallbacks
Elkhart, Goshen, and Nappanee City Courts were not among the current Elkhart CourtCal choices. That gap reflects which courts plug into the interface, not a lack of municipal cases. To find a hearing, search MyCase for an entered Odyssey case, read the citation or notice, and then call the right city clerk to confirm the meeting time.
| City court | Published phone | Odyssey node |
|---|---|---|
| Elkhart City Court | 574-522-5272 | 20H01 |
| Goshen City Court | 574-533-9365 | 20H02 |
| Nappanee City Court | 574-773-2112 | 20H03 |
Some city citations later move into the county Traffic & Misdemeanor Division. Those follow the county route. Check the node on each result, because the first city contact may no longer hold the newer file.
Elkhart CourtCal Official Search
Start with the official Trial Court Calendars search. That page is the current tool. An old Elkhart weekly on-call list is not.

The interface is dynamic, so court choices and public results shift over time. If a calendar result matters to you, note the date, time zone, court, and retrieval time.
When CourtCal and the CCS disagree, never pick the date you like better. Call the assigned court. A calendar result is a public reference only, while the court's order and the official CCS control the case history. Need to locate the underlying case first by name or number? Use the Elkhart County case lookup.
